Trying out a new horse
28th November 2011 18:46:04
In the last week, I took delivery of a lovely, gentle Irish hunter, who I’m naming ‘Suzi Q’. She and I are on a ‘get to know each other’ mission to see if we would like ‘each other’ on a long term loan. And it’s like having a new puppy – she’s a huge distraction.
She definitely fits the bill of moving away from thoroughbreds, a true middleweight, I would say. Needless to say, stamina shouldn’t be a problem!
A full up 16hh, Suzi is quite a bit bigger than I was ideally looking for but I reckon she’ll win me over on temperament. Only trouble is that she has been roughed off since March so have to lunge her a bit and sort her feet out, before I can sit on her and see what feel she gives me. Will report back.
But, so far, so good from the ground. Only trouble is that my young new forest pony mare seems to think she should rule the roost (to mix metaphors). Hopefully they’ll sort that one out soon!
