There is excitement at Vinotopia. The seasons are a-changing. The first hint of warmth in the sun. The pink bloom of fruit blossom. The distant rumble of lawnmowers cranking into action and the dusting down of cricket whites. Meanwhile, here at the Wine Barn, we have been feverishly digging out a selection of wines to celebrate these developments. The result? A fabulous Spring Tasting Case - a mix of 4 light reds, 6 fresh whites and a couple of bottles of fizz. The perfect way to mark the arrival of Spring, and all for only 120.
2 x Domaine de Fourn, Blanquette de Limoux, Carte Noir, 2009 - Our ever popular sparkler from southern France. A great alternative to Champagne - soft and fresh with crisp green fruit aromas. Lovely as an aperitif, and terrific with fish and chips!
2 x Vondeling Sauvignon Blanc, South Africa, 2011 - This prestigious South African producer is consistently rated highly by Robert Parker, and this excellent Sauvignon Blanc is a good example why. In style somewhere between the Loire and New Zealand, it shows a waft of white fruit and a hint of lime on the nose with attractive minerality on the finish. Fabulous.
2 x Finca, La Emperatriz, Rioja, 2010 - A unusual, interesting and excellent-value white Rioja. Honeysuckle, white flowers and a hint of custard. Attractive maturity on the palate and a lovely long finish.
2 x Domaine Brial, Helios, 2010 - Ripe, rich and tropical, this lovely blend of Grenache Blanc, Macabeo, Malvoisie is the result of thoroughly expert winemaking at the Brial vineyard nestling in the foothills of the French Pyrenees. A great example of the quality and innovation for which the Languedoc is becoming known, it is one of our favourites in the Wine Barn.
2 x Domaine de Colette, Moulin A Vent, Beaujolais, 2009 - An unusually full-bodied, full-flavoured Beaujolais showing aromas of sweet cherries and raspberries. Hints of violet on the finish. The perfect Spring red wine.
2 x Volo di Alessandro, Sangiovese, Castel di Salve, 2007 - Hot, ripe and round from the heel of Italy, this is a deliciously approachable, soft, Italian red. Versatile with food too - think rich olive oil, aubergines, tomatoes, garlic and olives. Smoked meats too. Lovely.
