Peter Maclaine, an independent estate agency located in the High Street, Pewsey, has been renamed by its owners Mark Chick and Simon Walker, who purchased the business in 2009. The new sign above the door proudly announces that the 30-year old agency is now called Manningford Croft.

Mark Chick says: We purchased the agency from Peter Maclaine on his retirement and continued to build the business under his name for two years. Weve been doing well, despite the challenging economic environment, which is testament to the good will and reputation Peter cultivated over three decades. We are now moving the firm forward, broadening our offer and geographical reach, and putting more of ourselves into its identity. As part of our rebranding, we have given our office a modern makeover, refreshed our website and selected a new name that can be carried forward for generations to come.

The firm prides itself on not being part of a corporate chain and offers a highly personalised service, handling property for sale and rental across Wiltshire, Berkshire and Hampshire.

Simon adds: We are conveniently located at the centre of our area of coverage, deep within the stunning Vale of Pewsey, within easy reach of the M3 (A303) and M4 corridors. We are surrounded by much sought-after centres such as Amesbury, Devizes, Hungerford, Marlborough and Salisbury.

Pewsey railway station runs direct services to London Paddington with the journey taking just over an hour, making this area ideal for those planning to move out of London. Mark and Simon have both done exactly that, with a desire to bring up their young families in a rural environment.

Marks experience spans 27 years in residential estate agency, including a key role in the development of Bective Leslie Marsh, a top end independent London agency, as sales director at the Notting Hill branch. He relocated with his wife and two children from London to the Vale of Pewsey in 2007 and commuted to London until the purchase of his estate agency in Pewsey.

Simon, who grew up in Wiltshire, has 15 years experience in the residential property sector, working across all price ranges in Hungerford, Marlborough, Chelsea and South Kensington. He moved from London back to north Wiltshire in 2003 and worked for two national estate agencies before joining forces with Mark to purchase Manningford Croft. Simon lives with his wife and two children in Wexcombe, where his family farms.

The Vale of Pewsey is a glorious rural idyll, says Simon. Many who have discovered the area have found this very desirable oasis ticks all the boxes. Those who already live here know its possible to buy a very good property at a sensible price, and for those relocating here, the travel links make it easy to visit family and friends: they really can have the best of both worlds.

Commenting on the current market, Mark says: There is a shortage of good properties on the market, not least because people tend to wait until Easter before putting their houses up for sale. However, Easter is quite late this year and we are advising our clients to enter the market two or three weeks earlier if they can the early bird catches the worm! The country market does, to a large extent feed itself, with many buyers also sellers. Realistically priced houses are selling, with some exceeding their asking prices. We are cautiously optimistic for a busy spring/summer period.

Manningford Croft has a good choice of properties available for sale, four of which are listed below. For further information on these and other homes please call telephone 01672 564555 or visit
