Children living in the Calne area could benefit from an assisted private education thanks to bursaries being offered by St Margarets Preparatory School.
The community bursaries for children aged from 7 to 11 will be available for the start of the new school year in September, but families have until 5th March to apply. Each application will be means tested and, if successful, the children will be required to sit an academic assessment. Headmistress Karen Cordon said: Our intention is to extend our education opportunities to the wider community, to those children who show academic promise, but whose families have limited financial means.
This is the fourth year the community bursaries have been offered and Mrs Cordon commented that those children who had been offered bursaries in the past had been a real asset to the school they had seamlessly fitted in and done well in all areas of school life, including sports and music as well as more formal subjects. The bursaries are available to Key Stage 2 children who will be in Years 3 to 6 from September 2012. Bursaries of up to 100% of the school fees are available.
