Chris Kane, the current proprietor of Woodbridge Park Golf Club in Brinkworth, has announced that as of April 1st 2011, he will be handing over to Ross Williams. Chris said I have known Ross for many years and greatly respect his knowledge of the golf industry, I feel confident that he will use his previous club management experience to improve the overall condition of the course and generally take the business forward. I wish him the very best for the future
Ross has a wealth of golf course and club management experience, most recently as course manager at Bowood Golf & Country Club, a position he held for over 11 years. I went to Bowood to solve a problem on the greens, they had been badly managed and needed some radical management techniques to bring them back to an international standard Ross commented. I only had one season to prepare the greens for the flagship event of the European Challenge Tour Championship. The event was a great success and was subsequently held for three years. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bowood, elevating the course into the top hundred golf courses was hard work, I feel it was my greatest achievement and gave me a great feeling of satisfaction. I will however miss the friendships made over the years, with both staff and members. Golf is a small community, so no doubt I will meet many old friends at my new club.
Whilst employed in the golf industry, Ross was responsible for setting up several PGA European Tour golf events in Europe. As a course consultant he has worked in the Republic of Ireland, and was for a short time, engaged as course consultant to the late King Hassan II of Morocco. As General Manager, he was employed by the IBB International Golf & Country Club in Abuja, at the time, the only green golf course in Nigeria. Ross was also responsible for the reconstruction of the infamous 18th green at the Santo da Serra Golf Club, the home of the Madeira Islands Open.
Ross went on to say I feel very exited at the prospect of running Woodbridge Park, having spoken to all of the staff and many of the clubs members, I am confident of their support. I wont be making many radical changes to the club in the short term; the Head Greenkeeper Mike Bacon has already made great improvements to the greens over the past two years. I hope that my input will enable us to improve the putting surface to an even higher standard. During the current financial climate our all prices are being held the same as last years. Chris Kane will still be closely associated with the club, as he project manages the current ongoing building project of 10 golf lodges around the course.
Our members also enjoy a varied social calendar and the friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the clubhouse.
